Interim Chief Diversity Officer

Dr. Angela E. Batista joined Oregon State University as the Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Student Life in June 2015 and was named as Interim Chief Diversity Officer on February 1, 2016.  Prior to joining Oregon State, she served as Dean of Students at the University of Southern Indiana.  She has worked in various colleges and universities across the United States, including the University of Vermont, Lynn University, Champlain College and Mills College.  Her experience as an educator includes working as a teacher, counselor administrator in Student Affairs and a Chief Diversity Officer.  Angela has also worked as a high school teacher, counselor and administrator, serving as Foreign Language Department Chair and an English Language Learners’ Program in South Florida.

Angela has received several honors including being named as Teacher of the Year, the Diversity Awareness Thoughtfulness and Courage Award and the creation of the Angela Batista Social Justice Award -- awarded to a deserving student at the University of Vermont every spring since 1999.  Angela is the recipient of the 2013 NASPA Latino/a Knowledge Community Administrator of the Year Award.  She was also selected by students at the University of Southern Indiana to receive the 2015 Spirit of the Eagle Award in Senior Administration. 

She is also actively engaged in professional national organizations and has served as an executive office in the Executive Committee of the Latino Caucus for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education (NCORE) and in various national leadership roles leader in Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, also known as NASPA.  She also served as the national Vice-Chair (2012-2014) and Chair (2014-2016) for the NASPA Latino/a Knowledge Community, a member of NASPA’s Equity and Inclusion Commission and a member of the NASPA 2016 Conference Leadership and Planning Team. 

Angela earned her Ed.D. in Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and her master’s degree from the University of Vermont. Her undergraduate work was completed at Brooklyn College in New York City. 

Scott Vignos, J.D.
Director of Strategic Initiatives

Scott Vignos joined Oregon State University in October 2015 and has served as Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Institutional Diversity since July 2016.

Scott has an enduring passion for justice through action. Scott practiced law in San Francisco at an international law firm and maintained a wide-ranging pro bono practice representing clients seeking asylum in the United States. During his legal training, he worked at the East Bay Community Law Center, representing low-income and formerly-incarcerated residents of Oakland and Alameda County, and as an advocate at the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic, representing clients in all phases of removal and asylum proceedings.

Transitioning to a career in higher education, Scott served as Associate Director of Admissions and Outreach at UC Davis School of Law.  At UC Davis, he directed the law school's state-wide outreach and pipeline development programs seeking to increase the representation, retention and success of first-generation and low-income students in law school and the legal profession. He also partnered with the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic to conduct legal research on novel immigration law issues.

Scott earned his J.D. from UC Davis School of Law where he was a California Bar Foundation Public Interest Fellow. Scott earned his B.A. from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., where he majored in Sociology and Anthropology. He currently serves on the Corvallis Community Involvement and Diversity Advisory Board, UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic Alumni Advisory Board, and as an Alumni Champion for the East Bay Community Law Center.
