As interim vice president, he recognized the need for university leaders to have a more accurate long-term view, and worked with colleagues to create a dynamic 10-year business forecast that integrates operational and capital needs. He oversaw the implementation of new information systems, including a broad eProcurement program, and led a significant realignment of the Office of Human Resources, resulting in improved delivery of programs and a streamlined student hiring process. Mike led the development of the division’s first strategic plan, ensuring its alignment with university goals and its focus on improving service, safety and health, and stewardship. He has also worked closely with colleagues to move forward capital development for the OSU-Cascades campus and the Marine Studies Initiative. Throughout these and other projects, Mike has made transparency and collaboration his primary focus, to ensure the perspectives of key constituents and community members are incorporated.
Prior to Mike’s tenure at OSU, he had 23 years of experience at the Oregon University System, beginning in the internal audit division and then moving to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration/Controller position where he was responsible for overseeing the preparation of the consolidated annual financial report, cash, investment and long-term debt management, payroll consolidation and reporting, tax reporting and compliance, and financial reporting to the OUS board.
