Oregon State University colleagues,

I am writing to share with you that Dr. Jennifer Brown has announced her decision to accept an appointment as vice provost and dean of undergraduate education at the University of California – Riverside, effective Aug. 1.

Jennifer’s passion for student success will serve her well in her new role, and we wish her great success and offer our sincere thanks for her leadership at Oregon State.

Jennifer has served as Oregon State’s vice provost and dean for the Graduate School since spring 2016. Under her leadership, Jennifer has spearheaded efforts to provide transparency in issues regarding good academic standing, increased resource allocation for the Graduate Education Toolkit and Graduate Writing Center; led the transition of a new student and staff space in Heckart Lodge; and worked to streamline processes for faculty, programs and students.  She also has worked to foster diversity by leading the inaugural task force on diversity modules for incoming students and by sponsoring the Black Graduate Student Association. Jennifer has served as a member of the Provost’s Executive Committee and worked closely with the Graduate Council and other academic leadership to advocate for  graduate education at OSU.

We soon will launch a search for a new vice provost and dean. In the meantime, conversations are underway to identify interim leadership for the Graduate School.

Please join me in congratulating Jennifer. We will have an opportunity to celebrate with her before she departs for UC Riverside.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
