Effective today, Dr. Grace Kuo will step down as Dean of the College of Pharmacy and will continue as a tenured professor in the college.

Dr. Kuo has served as dean since June 2019. She led the college through a successful reaccreditation; increased the college’s focus on diversity; and streamlined operational policies. I am grateful for her hard work and dedication during her service as dean.

Dr. David Bearden will begin an appointment as Interim Dean of the College of Pharmacy immediately. Dr. Bearden most recently served as Associate Dean for Academic Integration and Clinical Advancement and previously as Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. He has been with the College for 19 years with a focus in infectious diseases pharmacy. He is an experienced and well-respected administrator, a longstanding partner with colleagues at OHSU, and an outstanding clinical scholar. I thank him for taking on this important assignment.

I have asked Dr. Bearden to work with College of Pharmacy leaders, faculty, staff, students and stakeholders to clarify and advance the instructional, research and engagement goals of the college; continue efforts and initiatives in support of diversity, equity and inclusion; and produce a business plan that places the college on a strong financial footing. I will collaborate with Dr. Bearden and others to assess the best timing to launch a national Dean search.

President Alexander and I look forward to working closely with Dr. Bearden and are fully committed to the College of Pharmacy’s success.
