Attorneys within the Office of the General Counsel represent Oregon State University. In that capacity, we advise and counsel the President, Board of Trustees, faculty, staff – all in their official capacities – on various legal issues impacting the University.

No, the Office of the General Counsel does not, and cannot, provide legal advice to faculty or staff regarding personal matters. The Office of the General Counsel provides legal services related to university business only.

The attorneys within the Office of the General Counsel provide guidance only to employees on university matters. Occasionally, general counsel may advise students in leadership positions (for instance, where the student serves in an official capacity with the University).
