Outreach & Engagement Leadership Update

To: Extension, Outreach and Engagement Colleagues

From: Edward Feser, Provost and Executive Vice President

17 May 2019

Dear Extension, Outreach, and Engagement Colleagues:

Following my March 15th update to you, I continue to receive feedback from internal and external stakeholders on the qualifications and priorities that are important considerations in securing new outreach/engagement and Extension leadership. Because views vary widely, and because many stakeholders are requesting opportunity for additional voice into the University’s plans, I will appoint an Interim Vice Provost/Extension Director to assume Scott Reed’s role at the end of July. The appointee will work with me to engage various stakeholder groups, hear their advice, and assist with formulating the plan for permanent leadership of this university priority area.

I welcome your nominations for the role of Interim Vice Provost/Extension Director. You may send them to Gigi Bruce at [email protected] no later than Tuesday, May 28, 2019, and I expect to announce an appointment by middle of June. The ideal nominee has leadership experience in extension, engagement and/or outreach activities and is currently or previously employed by Oregon State. The appointee will not be eligible to apply for the permanent position.

I appreciate your patience. Oregon State University is a national leader in outreach and engagement, and the OSU Extension Service, its three major college partners, and its external partners generate significant impact across Oregon and beyond. Because of the importance of this work, I want to make sure I fully understand the range and substance of stakeholder views in order to ensure we’re best positioned to recruit exceptional leadership of this work going forward.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
