State of Black Affairs Summit 2025

Call for proposals  

The Black Affairs Summit 2025 will be held in Portland, Oregon on May 22 and May 23, 2025 at the Oregon State University Portland Center. This year, the Summit has expanded to a two-day format and is focused on Black faculty and staff in higher education. The theme for this year is Black Joy: Struggle, Resilience, and Restoration. We welcome presentation proposals that explore this theme.  

 

Important dates

  • Proposal available to submit: January 10, 2025 

  • Proposal submission deadline: March 10, 2025 

  • Decision notification: March 31, 2025 

  • Session scheduling notification: April 14, 2025 

  • Session confirmation deadline: April 21, 2025 

  • Alternates notification: April 28, 2025 

  • Alternates session confirmation deadline: May 5, 2025 

  • Final Presentation File Submission Deadline: May 15, 2025

  • Presentation Date: May 23, 2025

Key requirements

  • Presentations will be May 23, 2025.  

  • Presenters must register to attend at least Day 2 of the Summit (May 23). The registration fee will be waived. You may register after your proposal is selected. 

  • Presentation sessions will be 40- 45 minutes. A variety of formats are welcome: 

    • Seminar 

    • Workshop

    • Roundtable

    • Panel discussion

    • Other 

  • Session rooms will be equipped with AV technology. 

  • Presenters must comply with presentation and accessibility guidelines.  

  • Presenters must submit their final presentation by May 15, 2025, to [email protected].

It is also recommended to bring your own computer, slides &materials, and adaptors.

  • How to negotiate compensation in higher education
