It is a top priority of Oregon State University to strengthen the university’s approaches to preventing all forms of interpersonal violence, including sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking or harassment, and supporting those who have been impacted. At Oregon State University, interpersonal violence prevention, support and response is multi-disciplinary and crosses many departments throughout the university.
The Office of the President will be providing the university community and the Oregon State University Board of Trustees with progress updates related to advancing this priority. This website serves as an information resource for this important work and progress achieved.
Because preventing, stopping and remedying the impacts of sexual misconduct and discrimination are critically important, for several years the university has identified the domain as a special area of focus in its enterprise risk framework. The Oregon State University Board of Trustees' Academic Strategies Committee provides oversight of the university’s related risk action plan. On April 1, 2021, Acting President Edward Feser directed Executive Director for Equal Opportunity and Access and Title IX Coordinator Kim Kirkland and Vice Provost for Student Affairs Dan Larson to lead the following:
Oregon State University is an inaugural partner network organization in the National Academies’ Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education. The Action Collaborative was created in 2019 and brings together 60 colleges, universities, and research institutions to share their work to prevent and address sexual harassment in higher education. Acting President Edward Feser affirms internal practices for supporting the OSU president’s consistent awareness and appropriate oversight of Title IX efforts, policies, procedures, and related programs. A protocol will be followed for communicating with the president regarding certain incidents of sexual misconduct, including Title IX matters. Regularly scheduled meetings will support the president’s continued oversight.
