Rebuilding the Pac-12

Sept. 12, 2024

Dear OSU Community,

In the days following the dramatic events of August 4, 2023, I assured you that we were doing everything in our control to fight for the Pac-12. We explored countless paths, always mindful that preserving the grand history, excellence and tradition of the Pac-12 is in the best interests of OSU student-athletes and of intercollegiate athletics nationally. Beaver Nation never gave up on us, and we will never stop fighting for Beaver Nation.

Today, Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Barnes and I are proud to share that the Pac-12 has secured commitments from Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State to join our conference. These are universities that share our values, prioritizing the holistic health and wellbeing of student-athletes and providing opportunities for them to compete at the highest levels. While plans for 2026 and beyond are still taking shape, there is so much to look forward to.

As with any grand undertaking, there will be challenges. But today, bolstered by the grit, resiliency and fighting spirit of Beaver Nation, the Pac-12 is rising once again. Together, with all eyes upon us, we have inspired the nation. In this singular moment, we look to the future with boldness and creativity. By championing student-athletes, strong ties and cherished traditions among leading universities, we are charting our own path and setting an example for the future of all intercollegiate athletics.

Go Beavs!
