Professor of Sociology, College of Liberal Arts, President-elect of the Faculty Senate

Dwaine Plaza is a professor of Sociology in the School of Public Policy at Oregon State University. He has been at OSU since 1997. His teaching includes race and ethnic relations, globalization, social justice and applied research methods. He has written extensively on the topic of Caribbean migration within the international diaspora, and his publications have focused on such topics as return migration, migration and settlement practices of Caribbeans, and immigration policy in Canada, where he grew up. Dr. Plaza served as associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts from 2016 to 2018, where he worked to advance student and faculty success. He has also served as co-chair of the OREGON STATE ADVANCE research team. Dr. Plaza is president-elect of the Faculty Senate and will be serving as president in 2020. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and master’s in Faculty Environmental Studies, and a doctorate in Sociology from York University.
