Dear OSU Colleagues:

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Ivory W. Lyles as Oregon State University’s vice provost for extension and engagement and director of the OSU Extension Service, effective on Sept. 30.

Dr. Lyles is the director of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and associate dean for engagement in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources. In those roles, he has leveraged the full range of expertise of the University of Nevada, Reno and all Nevada System of Higher Education institutions and collaborated extensively with community partners to address the needs and challenges of citizens throughout Nevada.

Dr. Lyles arrived at the University of Nevada, Reno following time at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, where he was a professor in the Department of Agriculture and dean and director of Land Grant Programs. Prior to that, he was director of the Cooperative Extension Service and associate vice president of agriculture at University of Arkansas - Little Rock. Prior to his extension leadership positions at Alcorn State University and the University of Arkansas, Dr. Lyles held cooperative extension positions at the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, The Ohio State University and Mississippi State University. He received his doctorate in agricultural education, community, and rural development in 1990 from The Ohio State University, his master's in Extension education and education leadership in 1984 from Mississippi State University, and his bachelors in agricultural economics in 1980 from Alcorn.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Lyles to Oregon State and thanking Dr. Anita Azarenko for serving so capably as Interim Vice Provost for Extension and Engagement since July 2019. I deeply appreciate Anita’s many years of leadership and dedicated service to OSU and wish her a very happy retirement.
