Division of Outreach and Engagement Updates

To: Oregon State University faculty and staff

From: Edward Feser, Provost and Executive Vice President

March 3, 2020

Dear OSU Colleagues:

I am writing to provide two outreach and engagement updates.

The first is a change in the name of the “Division of University Outreach and Engagement” to the “Division of Extension and Engagement.” This change, which is effective immediately, better highlights the significance of the OSU Extension Service while also referencing the role of the division in helping to steward and support OSU’s public engagement mission broadly, both within the division itself and across colleges, schools, departments and other units. Interim Vice Provost Anita Azarenko and I shared the proposed new name and its rationale in many thoughtful conversations with division employees, stakeholders, OSU colleagues and leadership, the Board of Trustees, members of the Faculty Senate and others, and received much positive feedback and support.

The second update is that our national search for a permanent vice provost for extension and engagement and director of the OSU Extension Service will begin this month, chaired by Toni Doolen, Dean of the Honors College and the College of Education. The position profile, search committee membership, and other search related documents will be posted to our Executive Searches web page as they become available. I encourage your involvement and feedback throughout this search process. Nominations are encouraged and may be sent to Gigi Bruce, Special Assistant to the Provost.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
