Dear Colleagues:

I write to invite you to serve on OSU’s Strategic Plan Steering Committee, chaired by Susan Capalbo, Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. Over the next few months, OSU will engage in an engagement/input process that will involve the entire University community and key stakeholders including the OSU Board of Trustees and others. Your assistance during this process will help us to collect and evaluate input from all sources and to begin the process of crafting the Strategic Plan 4.0 (SP 4.0) document.

SP 4.0 is not expected to radically alter the current strategic direction of the University, but rather to update what has been accomplished, refine areas of focus, identify or modify important goals and align university leadership on the current challenges, prioritized investments and opportunities associated with meeting those agreed upon goals over the next five years.

This cycle of strategic planning will be informed by the previous SP 3.0 document, the recent rebranding effort, Vision 2030 work, any insight or relevant requirements coming from reaccreditation, from the diversity strategic plan and most importantly, input from faculty and other key stakeholders.

The steering committee will meet approximately every two weeks from mid-January through March to review, characterize and prioritize input from the various sources and help to establish the draft content and structure for communicating SP 4.0. You will also be asked to attend as many of the facilitated input sessions as possible during the same period of months. Steve Shields, a consultant with Constructive Endeavors, will attend the steering committee meetings and will serve as lead facilitator for the dialogue sessions. Additional details regarding the engagement process will be added to the Strategic Plan 4.0 web site as they become available.

Each of you already contributes to the University in many ways, and I appreciate your willingness to consider taking on this work. I will plan to meet with the steering committee prior to the first input session to discuss the SP 4.0 development process and answer any questions you may have.

Please contact Gigi Bruce as soon as possible to accept or decline this invitation. ([email protected])

Thank you and best wishes,

Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
