Subject: Provost’s Charge

Dr. Dan Arp, Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences, will serve as chair of the committee, and Gigi Bruce, Special Assistant to the Provost, will manage the search process. The University will partner with Witt Kieffer, an executive search firm, to attract an excellent and diverse candidate pool.

The search committee will develop the position profile and screening criteria consistent with the expectations in the announcement. The committee should expect to work toward providing a list of 3-4 finalists for the Provost’s consideration for on-campus interviews. This list is to be unranked, and should include a thoughtful critique of the candidates’ strengths and weaknesses.

Following the Provost’s review of the recommended finalists, Dr. Arp will extend invitations to those selected for campus interviews. The search committee will arrange the interview schedule for each of the candidates; meet with the finalists brought to campus for formal interviews; receive feedback from others involved in the interviews; and will again develop critiques and unranked recommendations regarding further consideration of candidate(s). Subsequently, the Provost will assume the lead role in further discussions or negotiations with the candidate(s), with the goal of attracting the most highly qualified person to the position.

The goal is to build a timeline that results in on-campus interviews in early spring, with an ideal start date for the new dean of July 1, 2018.

The Dean of Pharmacy is a vitally important leadership and management position at Oregon State University. Search committee members and others in the University should be vigorous and proactive in recommending candidates and soliciting nominations and applications for this position. Nominations may be submitted to Gigi Bruce at any time.
