2 July 2021

Dear OSU Colleagues,

I am writing to announce that Dean Roberta Marinelli has accepted an Intergovernmental Personnel Assignment to serve as the Director of the National Science Foundation’s Office of Polar Programs (OPP) for the coming year. In this temporary post, she will lead OPP into a new era of polar research in the context of the Earth as an integrated system. Her prior experience at the NSF, and her current position in CEOAS, have provided a deep understanding of NSF’s critical role in creating opportunities and providing infrastructure for the polar research community. Her appointment, which will begin in early August, is timely given renewed federal investments in science and climate change research.

I offer Roberta my warm congratulations for this appointment and the confidence in her leadership, perspective, and experience it represents.

As soon as possible, and following appropriate consultation, I will appoint an acting dean to oversee the college during her absence. If you would like to nominate someone for the acting dean role, please email Gigi Bruce, Special Assistant to the Provost, as soon as possible.

Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
