Student Affairs Leadership Transition

14 August 2017

To: Oregon State University faculty and staff

From: Edward Feser, Provost and Executive Vice President

Dear Oregon State Colleagues,

Earlier today, Dr. Susie Brubaker-Cole announced that she will join Stanford University as their next Vice Provost for Student Affairs. Her appointment as Oregon State's Vice Provost for Student Affairs will end on Sept. 6.

Dr. Brubaker-Cole came to Oregon State in 2008 from Stanford, where she previously served as Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. She served as Associate Provost for Academic Success and Engagement, and following a national search, she was appointed as Vice Provost for Student Affairs in 2014.

Dr. Brubaker-Cole has worked determinedly with colleagues to advance equity and inclusion, particularly in support of students from backgrounds historically underserved in higher education. She led the development of the University's statements on freedom and expression and assembly; expanded support and advocacy resources for survivors of sexual assault and innovative education programs on sexual violence prevention; and developed a Student Affairs strategic plan that emphasizes transformative learning in the co-curriculum, inclusive community, and student well-being. That she is an outstanding leader of high integrity and effectiveness was readily apparent to me when I joined Oregon State, and it has been a great pleasure to work with her. I know that you join me in wishing Susie and her family well in her new post.

I have appointed Dan Larson to serve as Interim Vice Provost for Student Affairs while we conduct a national search. Dan has a long history at OSU, having served as Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Interim Dean of Student Life, as well as Executive Director for University Housing and Dining. I will update the campus community as we make progress with the search for our next Vice Provost for Student Affairs.
