Below is a summary of what topics will be live streamed. Based on feedback from attendees about their preferred sessions, we have chosen those that have the highest interest level for live streaming.

LIVE STREAM:

8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. – Welcome and keynotes

10-10:45 a.m. Distinguished Scholars Initiative: Fostering Success for OSU Male Students of Color
Jason J. Dorsette, Office of Academic Achievement | Terrance Harris, Diversity & Cultural Engagement | Dorian Smith, Educational Opportunities Program
This workshop invites participants to learn about the Distinguished Scholars Initiative (DSI) and the ways in which the program is making a positive impact on the academic and social success of male students of color.

11-11:45 a.m. Data for the Undergraduate Student Success Initiative (USSI)
Chrysanthemum Hayes, Institutional Analytics and Reporting | Dan Larson, Student Affairs
This session provides an overview of the USSI metrics as well as an introduction to the new dashboards designed to support data-informed decision-making. This session offers both an opportunity to review currently available resources as well as engage with some of the dashboards to better understand what the data is telling us about student success at OSU.

1:15 – 2 p.m. (Lightning Talks – 7-minute talks)

Supporting the Needs of Today’s Students

  • Financial Stress is the Wrong Kind of Rigor: Leveraging the HSRC to Improve Retention (Nicole E.  Hindes & Miguel Arellano Sanchez, Human Services Resource Center)
  • Student Care Team: Trends of Challenging Transitions (Aubrie Piper, Office of Student Life | Student Care Team members)
  • Educational Opportunities Program Updates (Urmila L. Mali & Courtney Garcia, Educational Opportunities Program)

Through networks and collaboration, units share how they support the needs of OSU students and how you can partner with them or connect students with their resources. Specific topics include food insecurity, students in crisis, first-generation college students and undocumented students.

Be the Glue: Student Engagement Strategies

Getting students connected to campus can create a deep sense of belonging, which contributes to student retention and success. In this session, participants will discuss effective strategies for innovative student engagement methods.
