Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to provide an update on central administrative support for faculty affairs, following the move of Dr. Rick Settersten from the role of vice provost for faculty affairs to interim dean of the College of Health.
Over the last several weeks, I have conducted a review of activities in the Office of Faculty Affairs, staffing needs, and available resources. Based on that review, I have decided to move the faculty affairs support function under the Division of Academic Affairs and Dr. Alix Gitelman’s leadership. As Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Alix will oversee faculty affairs, undergraduate academics, the curriculum approval process, University Libraries, university accreditation, the Office of the Registrar, the Center for Teaching and Learning, assessment, and university policy. In leading work in the faculty affairs domain, Alix will be supported by current faculty affairs staff and continued close collaboration with University Human Resources, including Employment and Labor Relations.
In addition to consolidating strengths and creating new opportunities for collaboration, this change reduces administrative costs, freeing resources that I am redirecting to supporting our research goals under Prosperity Widely Shared, specifically initiatives to facilitate and seed large-scale, team-based, multidisciplinary projects.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
