Dear Oregon State Colleagues,
I write to share that Jon Boeckenstedt, vice provost for enrollment management since 2019, has announced his decision to retire at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.
As OSU’s first vice provost for enrollment management (EM), Jon has worked with the EM team and leaders across the university to implement a comprehensive data-driven approach to growing OSU’s visibility and recruiting success in Oregon and out-of-state, enrolling exceptional and diverse classes in Corvallis and Bend, capitalizing on the INTO OSU partnership to support international enrollment, advancing affordability and student success goals, and optimizing revenue. Jon has led efforts to upgrade EM systems and practices, developed and implemented a constituent relationship management (CRM) practice (OSU Slate), led programming and design of the new Welcome Center in Reser Stadium, and revamped the university’s approach to deploy financial aid and scholarships.
Jon’s vision and leadership has been instrumental in advancing OSU across all enrollment metrics. OSU now enrolls more students, more undergraduate students, more graduate students, more Oregon residents, more nonresidents, more international students, and more students on a single campus (Corvallis) than any other university in the state. Additional accomplishments include:
- Three consecutive years of record first-year applications and enrollment.
- Steady increases in the academic readiness of incoming students.
- Lower net costs for low-income Oregonians.
- Improved graduation and retention rates.
Jon will leave behind an EM division that is innovative and proficient in supporting OSU’s goals in Prosperity Widely Shared, and his knowledge of the national higher education landscape has contributed significantly to strengthening a wide range of projects and initiatives across OSU.
