Dear OSU Community Members,
It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Eleanor Feingold as Oregon State University’s new Dean of the College of Science, effective October 31.
Dr. Feingold received a BS in Humanities from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD in Statistics from Stanford University. Between earning her degrees, she worked in operations research in the electrical utility industry.
She began her academic career at Emory University, and for over two decades she has been on the faculty of the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research expertise is in statistical genetics and genomics and she is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. She also has a passion for teaching introductory statistics and professional and scientific communication.
Dr. Feingold has served the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public Health as associate dean for education, vice dean, chair of the Department of Human Genetics. Most recently, she served as associate dean for data analytics and special projects. During the 2021–22 academic year, she was the recipient of an American Council on Education Fellowship, which took her to Fort Lewis College and Hobart and William Smith Colleges for a semester each, during which time she worked with the presidents and provosts on strategic initiatives related to undergraduate education.
In addition to her experience and credentials, the search advisory committee and many of those who met with Dr. Feingold were impressed by her passion for research, commitment to student success and inclusive excellence, and excitement about joining the College of Science.
Dr. Feingold’s appointment will follow Dr. Vrushali Bokil’s appointment as interim dean. Please join me in thanking Dr. Bokil for her steady leadership over the past year and welcoming Dr. Feingold and her partner, Dr. Sara Schley, to the Oregon State community.
Sincerely,
Edward Feser
Provost and Executive Vice President
