He previously served as a college basketball analyst for Fox Sports Northwest, Root Sports, the Pac-12 Network and ESPN.

Hurd’s love of basketball and passion for community has led him to engage with and inspire countless youth organizations in Oregon. From 2007-2009, Hurd served as the director of basketball at The Hoop in Beaverton, and from 2009-2012, he co-owned All In One Basketball, a program focused on developing basketball skills and citizenship. In 2012, Hurd founded The Other Side of Basketball, an organization that sought to positively impact the lives of young people through integrity and service.

In 2020, Hurd and his wife Bethany launched a television show called “Hurd Mentality,” which airs on Root Sports NW and highlights individuals and organizations that strive to better their community through their daily work.

Hurd earned his bachelor of science degree in communications from OSU in 2006. He started as the Beavers point guard from 2002-2006, and during his college career received all Pac-10 academic honors three times. In 2006, Hurd shared the team’s most valuable player award and received the Pac-10 medal, which was awarded annually at each conference institution to one male and one female student-athlete who best exemplified excellence on and off the playing field.

Following graduation from OSU, Hurd played professional basketball in Germany in 2006-2007. Hurd now serves as the Trail Blazers’ youth ambassador and is a member of the OSU Board of Trustees.

I am honored that Lamar Hurd will give the 2022 commencement address, inspiring and motivating our graduates as they begin their lives beyond OSU.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser

Provost and Executive Vice President
