Dear Colleagues,
I appreciate the warm OSU welcome I have received since I started my appointment as Provost and Executive Vice President a few weeks ago. It has been a joy to reconnect with colleagues and friends, and I’m especially looking forward to important university-wide events that will kick off the new academic year.
The first of these is University Day, a celebratory launch to the academic year. Scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, University Day includes a welcome breakfast for new employees (by invitation); a keynote address from Daniel Porterfield, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, recognized as a visionary strategist, leader, and advocate for young people and purpose-driven leadership; and an expo and lunch. We hope you’ll get lunch and visit the over 40 booths at the expo to learn about the resources and opportunities at the university. Visit the University Day website to learn more. I look forward to seeing you there.
New students will kick off their first term at Oregon State through Connect, a program designed to welcome and prepare students. In particular, I’d like to draw your attention to Convocation, a beloved annual tradition designed to welcome new Beavers. This year, many in our community are also observing Rosh Hashanah, and we have rescheduled Convocation from Tuesday, Sept. 23, to Monday, Sept. 22, so all can participate. I hope to see many of you at the New Student Walk which precedes Convocation, and at the event itself. Visit the Connect website to learn more.
Please mark your calendars for these important events. My office will share additional details regarding University Day, Convocation, and other fall term events in the coming weeks.
I am so pleased to again be a part of Beaver Nation, and I look forward to the 2025-26 academic year. My team and I are implementing plans to ensure that I connect with the university community in myriad ways. In the meantime, best wishes to you for an enjoyable summer.
