Provost's Lecture featuring Celine Cousteau

Feb. 28, 2025

Dear OSU Community,

Please join me for the second lecture in the 2024-2025 Provost’s Lecture Series, featuring Céline Cousteau. This event will be held in Detrick Concert Hall in PRAx on Monday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. and streamed live online. (*See below if you reserved seats to watch the lecture in person.)

Céline Cousteau is an environmental activist, documentary filmmaker, facilitator, author and founder of CauseCentric Productions. She is committed to advancing understanding of the vital link between humans and the natural world, weaving storytelling and experiential practices to help people reconnect to self, community and nature. Her feature film, Tribes on the Edge, was made at the request of the Indigenous Peoples of the Vale do Javari in the Brazilian Amazon and led her to co-found The Javari Project, a for-purpose organization that implements tangible actions for the Indigenous Peoples of the Javari.

Her Provost’s Lecture, titled We are One Human Tribe, will discuss the intersection of nature and humans, drawing on concepts in psychology, intercultural relations, human wellness, and planetary health. Following her remarks, she will be joined by Michael Nelson, professor of environmental ethics and philosophy in the OSU College of Forestry and director of the Center for the Future of Forests and Society, who will moderate a Q&A discussion. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be streamed online for those who register for the event. Register here to watch online.

In addition to the Provost’s Lecture, PRAx will screen Tribes on the Edge during its Free Film Friday Series on Friday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. in Detrick Concert Hall. The film documents how the Indigenous peoples of the Vale do Javari are fighting to protect their homes in the face of the legacy of colonialism, gold mining, deforestation and the dismantling of land rights. The screening is free and open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Provost’s Lecture Series is a partnership between my office and the OSU Foundation. I hope you enjoy these special events.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser

Provost and Executive Vice President
