4 March 2022

Dear OSU Community Members,

I am pleased to announce Mary Karr as our next speaker for the Provost’s Lecture Series. She will deliver her lecture via Zoom on April 13, 2022, at 6 p.m.

Mary Karr is an award-winning poet and New York Times best-selling memoirist. She is the Jesse Truesdell Peck Professor of Literature at Syracuse University and author of the critically acclaimed, bestselling memoirs, The Liars’ Club, Cherry, and Lit. Karr’s latest books are The Art of Memoir, a master class on the fast-growing literary genre that debuted at No. 3 on the New York Times bestseller list, and a book for graduates based on her 2015 Syracuse University commencement speech, Now Go Out There (and Get Curious).

Karr’s visit to OSU is the second in the 2021-22 Provost’s Lecture Series, following David Eagleman’s talk last October. The series is a partnership of my office and the OSU Foundation and brings renowned thinkers, writers, scientists, artists and leaders to OSU to engage, challenge and inspire.

Karr’s lecture is titled “Lit: Alcoholism, Recovery and the Art of Memoir.” Following the keynote lecture, she will join Elena Passarello, associate professor in OSU’s School of Writing, Literature, and Film, for a moderated Q&A discussion. The lecture is free and open to the public. Register here to join us.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser

Provost and Executive Vice President
