Semiconductor strategy development underway

Dec. 16, 2022

Dear OSU Colleagues,

I’m writing to make you aware of the establishment of a Semiconductor Strategy Advisory Committee co-chaired by Tom Weller, Head of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Doug Keszler, Emeritus University Distinguished Professor of Chemistry.

For reasons of economic competitiveness and national security, the federal government is making historic investments in the U.S.-based expansion of this industry and related research and innovation, representing significant opportunity for the state of Oregon and OSU. The Semiconductor Strategy Advisory Committee, which I’ve charged in partnership with Vice President for Research Irem Tumer, will advise on how OSU can best capitalize on this opportunity to the benefit of our research mission, contributions to education and workforce development in Oregon and beyond, and innovation and entrepreneurship goals. The task force will also help us stay coordinated internally so that we maximize the impact of our efforts.

I invite you to reach out to professors Weller and Keszler if you are pursuing projects and proposals related to semiconductors, agency implementation of the federal CHIPS and Science Act, and related state-level initiatives. You may also hear from the task force as it gathers information and engages the OSU community around its work.

Sincerely,

Edward Feser

Provost and Executive Vice President
