Dear OSU Community Members,
Please join me Friday, Nov. 11, in celebrating Veterans Day and by recognizing the many contributions of our nation’s veterans and the continuing service of U.S. active duty military personnel across the world.
Veterans and active duty personnel are valued members of the university community, attending school and working as faculty and staff and as volunteers in numerous OSU programs.
This fall, 1,614 veterans are enrolled within Oregon State, making up 4.6% of the university’s overall enrollment on our campuses and within Ecampus. Another 209 students are involved in the university’s Reserve Officer Training Corps programs in Corvallis.
Oregon State also is designated as a military-friendly institution based upon its commitment to providing for student success and meaningful opportunities for members of the military community. In collaboration with the federal government, OSU offers financial assistance and supports active duty personnel and veterans with flexible course scheduling to support their educational success. In addition, programs on our Corvallis and Bend campuses offer support resources to assist veterans with their transition from military life to student life and career.
This week, OSU has acknowledged veterans and active duty personnel on the Corvallis campus with open houses, resource fairs, cultural engagement activities and other gatherings within the Veteran Resource Center in Snell Hall. At noon today, OSU-Cascades will hold an appreciation luncheon for all students, faculty and staff who are veterans. On Saturday, OSU Athletics will share appreciation of veterans as the Beavers football team plays the University of California Bears at 6 p.m. in Reser Stadium. As well, the OSU Foundation is raising funds to assist veterans and students connected with the military in their transition to university life.
I hope you will join me Friday in reflecting on the service, sacrifice and many contributions of our country’s veterans and active duty personnel.
Sincerely, Jayathi Y. Murthy
President
