Title IX Policy and Procedure Review

In April 2021, the university undertook an assessment of its practices that ensure that the OSU president exercises regular and sound oversight of Title IX efforts, policies, procedures, and related programs. The following parties collaborated on the assessment: Kim Kirkland, executive director for equal opportunity and access and Title IX coordinator; Dan Larson, vice provost for student affairs; representatives from University Human Resources; and members of OSU's internal Title IX review team. The assessment was completed on April 30, 2021, and clarified the following practices:

  • Clear protocols associated with notifying the president of incidents as they are reported
  • A schedule of standard oversight, support, and awareness by the president and other senior leaders, including:
    • Regular standing meetings of the president and executive director for equal opportunity and access regarding sexual misconduct matters, including Title IX
    • Provision to the president of a quarterly summary case response performance indicator report
    • Provision to the president and provost of a quarterly high-level summary of the number and nature of sexual misconduct reports and their resolution or disposition
    • An annual status review of the university’s broader interpersonal violence prevention, support, and response program
    • Preparation and dissemination of an annual report by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, summarizing reports received by the office and resolutions, including those related to Title IX
