Setting a Course for the Next Presidential Search

Retrospective Review of the 2019 Presidential Search Process

To help inform and set a course for the next search, the Board completed a retrospective review of the 2019 presidential search process.  A retrospective review is an opportunity to evaluate a work effort after it is completed and gather feedback on what went well, what did not go according to plan, and what could be done differently in the future.

Retrospective results were reviewed with trustees at the Board’s May 21, 2021, meeting and preliminary recommendations for the next search process were discussed. Additional input and information will continue to be gathered. The next presidential search did not begin until the fall term to ensure that students and nine-month faculty are available to participate.

In addition to this retrospective review, under a separate effort, the Board conducted an evaluation by an independent firm of the background check process used during the last search. The report and recommendations resulting from that completed evaluation can be viewed here.

The community was invited to provide feedback on the 2019 OSU presidential search via a feedback survey. Feedback was received from May 4 – May 17. Input gathered by the survey about major elements of the 2019 search will help the OSU Board of Trustees set the course for the next presidential search.
