Support interdisciplinary education, research and engagement on healthy ocean and coasts through the Marine Studies Initiative
Launched the social sciences-focused Marine Studies undergraduate degree (MAST), a collaboration between the Marine Studies Initiative (MSI) and the College of Liberal Arts.
Expanded academic programming at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) in Newport, including an array of experiential learning courses and a summer internship program, increasing courses offered at HMSC from 6 to 48.
Increased HMSC student population from 100 to 450 students.
Built the new internationally recognized Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building, which is the site of interdisciplinary marine studies research, education, and engagement.
Approved and designed the 77-unit workforce style Newport Housing Project, which will provide housing for students and visiting professionals studying or working at the HMSC and be completed in 2025.
