Moving Forward Together: Background and Timeline

November 2020 – The President and Provost’s Leadership Council for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice begins meeting monthly to implement the actions outlined in Moving Forward Together.

October 21, 2020 – President Alexander and Provost Feser issue the 2020-21 charge to the President and Provost’s Leadership Council for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice. Among its areas of focus for the year, the council is charged with guiding implementation and completion of actions identified as part of the Moving Forward Together initiative.

October 2020 – President Alexander and Provost Feser identify action leaders responsible for engaging with other leaders and members of the university community to make progress on their assigned actions.

September 16, 2020 – President Alexander issues a statement announcing next steps by the university and launching the Moving Forward Together initiative. The initiative outlined 45 specific actions to be advanced.

August 2020 – Office of Institutional Diversity provides a leadership response informed by stakeholder input that outlines an initial set of actions to advance antiracist outcomes at Oregon State University.

August 3, 2020 – President Alexander holds a conversation with members of the university community about actions to support Black, Indigenous and other students, staff and faculty of color at Oregon State University.

July 2020 – Office of Institutional Diversity invites participants to deliberate the university’s response to demands submitted by several university community groups. Through a series of conversations, student, staff, and faculty input is collected to inform a leadership response.

June 2020 – University community groups begin submitting calls to university leaders to take action to address systemic racism and support the long-term success of Black, Indigenous and other students, staff and faculty of color.
