From the Office of the President, Jayathi Y. Murthy

Dear OSU Faculty, Staff and Students,

I write to provide an exciting update on Oregon State University’s plans to inaugurate a new chapter in its history with the April 6, 2024, opening of the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts.

Thanks to a lead philanthropic contribution to the OSU Foundation by alumna Patricia Valian Reser – and the generous support of more than 250 other donors – a world-class, multi-venue center for the arts is under construction on the Corvallis campus at the intersection of Southwest Washington Way and 15th Street. This $70 million center will be a destination for the entire university community, Oregonians and guests beyond the state. In performance and gallery spaces, the center will offer a rich mix of programming featuring internationally renowned artists, OSU ensembles and theater, and community arts partners. By emphasizing the relationships among art, humanities, science and technology, the center will serve as a national leader in arts programming, artist residencies and the integration of the arts into research. The arts center also is a priority fundraising project in the OSU Foundation’s current “Believe It” fundraising campaign to support university initiatives.

Beginning this week, you will see more about this amazing center as we seek to differentiate OSU’s new arts center from similarly named Reser Stadium on the Corvallis campus or the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton. To do so, I am pleased to announce “PRAx” as a shorter name for the new arts center. The capital letters of PRAx stand for Patricia Reser Arts, while the “x” signifies the center’s mission: to promote arts-based intersections with science and technology, and to multiply the power of creativity through experiential, experimental and inspiring transdisciplinary programming.

On Nov. 1, we will launch a new PRAx website – including opportunities to purchase tickets, memberships and subscription series – as well as a comprehensive portrayal of the arts and humanities programs, exhibits and performances to be provided within PRAx – the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts.

I can’t wait to enjoy PRAx with you.

Sincerely,

Jayathi Y. Murthy
