New Division of Educational Ventures

July 31, 2023

Dear OSU Community:

Oregon State is committed to providing high quality, accessible educational offerings and credentials that meet the needs of a diversity of learners. OSU’s highly ranked Ecampus program is an example of our ability to offer innovative and transformative education in a way that reaches learners beyond our traditional methods of instruction, and there are more ways we can provide pathways to education.

To lead this charge, OSU is launching the Division of Educational Ventures. This division will serve as an entrepreneurial unit that will help OSU grow its national and international profile as an innovator in the delivery of education through use of different modalities—including online and onsite—as well as emerging technologies and pedagogies. Ecampus and its units will reside in the Division of Educational Ventures, and the division will leverage its expertise and infrastructure to expand and fortify our workforce and corporate education, open educational resources, and alternative credentials programs; and develop a university-wide governance structure for professional and continuing education.

The Division of Educational Ventures will report to the Provost and Executive Vice President and will be led by Vice Provost Lisa Templeton. Lisa has served Oregon State in a variety of roles, including several years at the helm of Ecampus, most recently as Associate Provost. Under her leadership, Ecampus has experienced rapid growth and success, including nine consecutive years ranked as one of America’s 10 best providers of online education by U.S. News and World Report. In 2023, a record 1,861 Ecampus students earned their Oregon State degrees online, making up 25 percent of the University’s graduating class.

Vice Provost Templeton will continue to be responsible for the success, growth, and reputation of Ecampus. In her role, she will serve as a member of the Provost’s Senior Leadership Team and will work closely with academic deans and other senior leaders to advance Oregon State’s position in the online education, workforce and professional education, and alternative credential markets.

A new Division of Educational Ventures website will launch soon. In the meantime, contact me if you have questions, and please join me in congratulating Vice Provost Templeton on her new role.
