Dear Oregon State Colleagues,
I write to share that Andrea Ballinger, Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer, has shared that she will be leaving OSU effective January 31, 2026.
Since joining OSU in 2019, Andrea has been a transformative leader in advancing the university’s digital strategy and modernizing administrative systems. Under her guidance, University Information and Technology has evolved from a transactional IT unit into a strategic partner and catalyst for change. She unified OSU’s distributed IT community, launched governance and data frameworks that now serve as national models, and built the infrastructure, security, and AI capabilities that will serve OSU’s research and teaching enterprise for years to come.
At OSU, Andrea has led several landmark initiatives including the IT Strategic Plan 2020–2023, the Administrative Modernization Program, and the Research Computing Task Force 2030 in partnership with Vice President for Research and Innovation Irem Tumer. These efforts have modernized university operations, strengthened research computing infrastructure, and improved the efficiency and equity of administrative processes and positioned OSU as a leader in digital transformation, responsible AI adoption, and high-performance research enablement.
While Andrea will be stepping away from her day-to-day responsibilities, I am pleased to share that she will continue serving in an advisory capacity for AMP and remain an active member of the AMP Steering Committee, ensuring continuity and strategic oversight during this critical phase of transformation.
Please join me in expressing our deepest gratitude to Andrea for her leadership and the lasting impact she has made on Oregon State University, including as a mentor to leaders across UIT and the university as a whole.
My office will share details soon about plans to celebrate Andrea’s service and the process for identifying her successor.
